B Team Wins!

B Team Update

The B team wrapped up their most successful season in recent memory with a dominating victory in the B North league finals. It is the first championship in the storied history of the B team. (Steve French the B team’s historian was not available at press time to confirm this). If you happen to see a ‘Duck Boat’ rolling rally going down Great Pond Avenue in the next couple of weeks you will know why.

The success was mainly due to 3 factors:

Fashion – Paul Ferullo made sure the
team was the best dressed team in the league (this included matching outfits for the playoffs for the team of Egertson and Appleton)

Lessons, tips, and encouragement from our new pro Tim. Tim was there so much he may have spent more time on the courts than Doc J.

Depth – no team in the league can match the quality of depth of our team. We had 27 members participate in at least one match with 25 of those members winning a match!

The Acorns were lead all year by team ‘Buzz Saw’ (so named by the frustrated Weston captain) – Paul Ferullo and Chris Downer. The steady Paul Swartz combined with numerous different partners to win 10 matches. The late season pairing of Will Applegate and Eric Egertson went 5-0 down the stretch. Team Khaki (French and Klein) continued to provide wins and wisdom – especially in the culinary area. Major kudos to Steve Andrews, Mark Alpert, and Dan Cote for being so flexible -playing for both the A and B teams all season. Lou Guercia was the iron man of the season playing all 17 matches (tied with Downer for the team lead). The B team was happy to have a few new members this season and they all passed the “Good Guy” test. Newcomers Cam Deery, Marc Poirier, Jim Hamilton, and Jesse Redlener will be counted on next year as the Acorns look for the repeat. There is still plenty of paddle left to played this spring so I hope to see you on the courts soon.
